Sinsen Torg/ Torshovdalen

Residential and business complex at Sinsen, Oslo.
Winner of closed competition in 2004.

The task included suggestions for development structure, regulation and design of apartments, kindergarten, business facilities and parking.
The planned construction is located on the brink at the top of Torshovdalen, in connection with Sinsen undergroundstation.  The site overlooks downtown Oslo and the fjord.

When designing Torshovdalen, the main focus was placed on:
- planning for views and favourable sun conditions for all apartments.
- creating communication and connection to Torshovparken.
- adapting and adjusting the height of the building to the surroundings and avoid barrier effects.
- establishing flexible apartment structures.

The development is structured like a comb with its back to the internal access gate and track area to the east and lamellas facing into the park to the west.  This structure provides communication with the park and creates a screened outdoor area.
The development has different heights with a platform over three floors (sound block) throughout and up to nine floors above the platform. They are designed and located to protect internal sun and viewing conditions as well as the lines of sight to the city and the fjord from the areas in the back.
