Godsløkka

Godsløkka, Norway

Godsløkka is a new development area on the south side of the Drammen River, near historic Strømsø. At its center stands Godsen, a brick building from 1909 designed by architect Paul Armin Due for the Norwegian State Railways. The building is a industrial structure that combines Neo-Romanesque architecture with Jugendstil influences. It is a solid brick construction with a architectural character, and flexible spatial layout give it high architectural value, while also requiring careful handling during upgrades.

The ongoing transformation project aims to restore the original architecture while introducing new public-facing functions and active uses connected to the planned public squares on both sides of the building. Structural components are being reinforced, and the roof and facades are being renewed. Repairs and replacements including windows, doors, and gates are being designed to match the original architectural expression. All interventions are carried out in close collaboration with heritage authorities to preserve the building’s character.
