Cabin Kragerø
Kragerø, Norway
The building tucks itself carefully into the rock face, leaving the natural landscape largely undisturbed. The cliff wall behind the building has been wire-cut, revealing a striking natural mosaic of black, white and pink stone. This surface is visible through a seven-centimetre-thick glass wall spanning two storeys, with light filtering in from above through a narrow gap between the rock and the building.
A large open space on the ground floor serves as kitchen, dining area and living room in one. The glass walls facing the sea open up completely, dissolving the boundary between inside and out. The kitchen island is cast in a single piece of concrete, seamlessly integrated into the open plan. Generous stair treads cascade from the living area down to the jetty, inviting you to sit at every level. Cast in white concrete, the steps remain bright even in wet weather a deliberate choice in a house where the boundary between inside and outside is always intentionally blurred.
