Gustav Vigelands vei 24
Skøyen, Oslo
The 7-apartment building is located between Skøyenparken/the English park and the housing project “Casinetto”, which is a housing association built in 1983, consisting of 13 buildings and 300 apartments placed around three yards. The project is listed on Byantikvaren's overview of registered cultural monuments in Oslo (Gul liste). The new volume shapes a single slat that follows the direction of the adjacent houses, filling a gap in the already existing structure, facing a lovely green view of old deciduous trees in the west.
A shed roof, suspended balconies and horizontal wooden cladding are elements that link the new to the existing, but the building is also given its own character with distinctive qualities. The building only has 3 floors, compared to the houses at the back, which are 5 floors. Processed details provide a uniform material and color palette. The gables and the entrance volume have copper cladding, which gives the building an exclusive feel. Railings are primarily glazed for maximum views. Windows and balcony doors have a spacious height to the floor to blur the distinction between inside and outside and give all rooms inside a lot of light. The apartments have open floorplans and each one is given the best qualities based on its internal location.
