Nye Rogaland teater and Stavanger museum
Stavanger, Norway
The proposal “ETTER ECKHOFF - Mellom trær, bygg og by ” has been selected as the winning entry in the competition for the new Rogaland Teater and Stavanger Museum.
Kannikhøyden is an important part of Stavanger’s cultural heritage, and the project builds on architect Hartvig Sverdrup Eckhoff’s original plans for the area. The design emphasizes the preservation of the historic buildings, opening the park to the public, and creating a cohesive environment where the museum and theatre can operate in close interaction.
A new shared foyer weaves its way between the existing buildings, forming an internal street with meeting places, cafés, and open spaces accessible to visitors. New building volumes are placed both above and below ground to maintain the character and landscape of the park.
The project is being developed in collaboration with DRDH, Jonas Thor, Arup and edit, in dialogue with Stavanger Municipality, Rogaland Teater and Museum Stavanger (MUST).
